Utilising the masking technique

Before

As you can see in the before template certain aspects of the water, as well as the boats are covered with masking fluid to prevent the paint from covering the area, eventually the bird was covered as well so to the freedom to paint without worrying whether the area will be painted over.

                                                                             After

The possibilities are endless, just have fun with the watercolours and use the colour wheel information that was posted on 26-06-2015 named adding colour. go to post that was published on 26-05-2015

The look-out at the Lady Young

Look at the sun rays at the right side of the pictures, this can be achieved after the painting is completed. When the painting is dry,  just mix white and yellow with a bit of water then dip the smallest paint brush in the medium and apply the brush stroke from the middle of the sun and continue straight down.

How to include clouds

Look at these cloud formations, each are different and tells it's own story. When you are painting your own story chose cloud formations that would add to the mood and the overall effect of the scene.

Sometimes a little goes a long way. Hint, leave as much white parts for the clouds as possible don't paint the blue over the white parts of the cloud, paint the outer area of the clouds first then add white for blending purposes.

Now! You are ready to paint the inner area of the cloud 'white' and while it is drying add hints of blue or grey depending on the mood of the painting for highlights purposes, but the base of the cloud is white.

So go ahead and melt your stress away and earn money this way, you can do it.

Is this a picture or a painting? If you guest this is a picture you are right. While on my way home I took a picture of a cane field. However, If you want to transform this scene into an ocean setting you can replace the land with sea and in the distance include mountains, just for effect.
Go ahead and melt your stress away and earn money this way.

Adding Value by using a black ink pen

Select a photo of your choice, make sure you can easily identify the light from the dark areas, then draw out the outline of the object first with a pencil and when the form is as you would like it be. Go ahead and use the dots or stroke techniques by darkening the shadow areas and leave the lighter areas as is, so to reflect the light. This is a simple technique to use, when you are finished you will amaze everyone , they will think you were doing this for years.

Paramin Hills- a slight ocean view

This view was taken way up in the hills of Paramin, where in the horizon you could see a slight view of the ocean. These hills are gorgeous, if you manage to have some free time on your hands, I would recommend that you should explore these hills and then try painting them.

I would recommend that you begin by drawing out the outline of the picture, after which you can paint the sky with a light wash of (light blue), then when the paint is dry you can paint the clouds. Don't add the blue wash where the clouds will be, just paint within the cloud area which is (white).

Make sure that the paint is dried, now you could then add in the highlights, by putting in the shadows (grey) with a tiny hint of blue and red and for the upper part of the cloud, you can use little touches of yellow but majority white. You can add white with yellow then put in shadows.

Always remember to blend the colors especially the sky, for the most part you can now add in the white part in the sky , just add a hint of grey and a tiny bit of blue for effect, the horizon has dark blue covered with a light grey mixture.

The rest is relatively easy, paint the coconut tree leaves normal brown, yellow, and dark green, trunk will be brown with yellow and highlight the entire tree with dark blue for effects.

Mountains- you can use a green wash and gradually intensify the pigment after it is dried, then add yellow to show where the light source is coming from, then for the darker areas you can use dark blue and for effect add a grey over the mountain peeks.

Color the grass by allowing the paint brush liberty to add contrast to the background, in other words it is not suppose to look perfect, Don't forget to add in the houses.

Go ahead have a go!!!  View more pictures of Paramin Hills

Small Boat- in Trinidad

For more information view facebook page
This picture also have a good contrast  between nature and man made objects. By the way, you don't have to necessarily use the same amount of boats in the picture, just maybe a few, just remember have fun and don't over do! I have taken the liberty of adding a few more pictures for you to enjoy.

Hint- please look at the direction of the shadows, if you want to be a painter you must be very observant. If you can determine where the light source is, then the shadows are not hard to find. So go ahead and transform these pictures into a work of art.

Pirates's Bay -Northeast Coast in Tobago

for more information view face book page
Tobago is also a beautiful island and it has inspired me to paint a scene at  Pirate's Bay which is located at the Northeast Coast in Tobago. When you have successfully mastered the art in painting you will have them for a life time and you can pass them onto your next generation or if you are not sentimental you can sell them at a reasonable rate after some years has passed of cause, its all up to you.

Hint 1: This painting has a little shine to it, all you have to do is to use acrylic paint and some dashes of salt, yes salt! and you will have the same effect, the paint must be wet though, for this technique to work.

Hint 2: Acrylic paints is more cost effective than water paints, since you do not have to worry about using glass frames, aging or even dust, just frame the painting without a glass and your painting will last forever, if dust appears just wipe it off.

Maracas Bay

Maracas Bay

Transforming an ordinary picture into a work of art, by just using color
view facebook page

This painting was created by me, Natasha George-Bompart, the paint medium used was watercolors. It was lightly sketched on normal painting paper. The very first item was painted was the sky, next the mountains, after which I tackled the ocean and lastly the green foliage.

Hint- you may not capture every detail in the picture,  just highlight some as you get more used to painting because as you progress your techniques will improve.

So have a go  at it,you can do it.

Adding Color

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Caribbeanescape/470757173082791?ref=hl
Adding color to your art work is base upon your preference but if you fully understand the theories and concepts of painting, it can be useful. There are two types of colors in the color wheel, there are primary colors and secondary colors.

Primary colors are those colors that cannot be mixed by other colors such as yellow, red and blue.
Secondary colors are those colors that are created by using primary colors.

Adding colorFor example yellow and blue = green
                                          Blue and red     = purple
                                          Red and yellow = orange

Analogous colors: Are those colors that are next to each other around the wheel.

Complementary colors: Are Those colors that are direct opposite to one another on the wheel, if you happen to mix them together they will grey one another.

You can have a go at making your own color wheel.

Brush strokes

Brush Strokes as requested

With everything requires lots and lots of practice, but you can do it, melt your stress away.

Clamp a sheet unto a board, divide it into four rectangles 6"x 9", in each rectangle you will practice some washes with different size brushes. The choice of paint could be blue or Ultramarine Blue, it's really up to you, then using a cup or place water at the center of the palette then add a bit of paint, mix will.

Now you are ready to paint, keep a rag or a sponge nearby just in case you make a spill, before you begin to paint place an item under the board so it could be tilted just a bit, this will allow the paint to run freely. Then dip the pain in the wash and begin painting from at the top from right to left, and continue to the end of your first rectangle, its almost like a dance, overlapping stroke after stroke, this way you will not see any stokes when its finish. I like to call it the painting wave , so go ahead and dance or it is also referred to as mowing a lawn; either of the two, the effect is a clean sweep.

You could have a go again, this time choose another color, always remember to never use dirty paint water, when you notice that the water is not clear, change the water because while mixing the paint it get corrupted with the pigment and as a result, the painting begins to look like the dirty wash.

let me know your progress!View a painting

Technique- Value

When we are looking at any object our eyes see value first, the eyes compares the relationship between light and darkness. The picture above best shows how light to dark reads; to further emphasize this relationship, you can appreciate photos that have a black and white contrast or you can view the following drawings.

A further tip, you need to pay close attention to the shadows that the object cast and its direction.

Instead of using a black pen or pencil for drawing purposes you can use a water colour paint called Burnt Umber and apply the same technique. So have a go, you can do it!

Macqueripe Bay in Trinidad

Watercolour
These are a few pictures that were taken at Macqueripe Bay in Trinidad, you can see that the background has the mountains and the foreground has the wooden fence, this makes it unique; since it has nature and a humanistic appeal at the same time. The sea has its own appeal as well and as a result, you must blend a mixture of colours to capture the sea.

Suggestions, Burnt Sienna with white for the sand, for the water you have to experiment - Thalo Green,Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna , White, Ultramarine Blue and black.

Hint, after painting the water, you need to slightly brush on white on top of the sea as to get the light effect, use a hint of yellow where applicable with white and  a little blue for mystery of cause, don't forget the shore must be painted using white, blue and a hint of brown or burnt sienna since the sand will be in the waves. Go ahead have a go. View more pictures of Macqueripe Bay

These are a few pictures of the well known Macqueripe Beach in Trinidad, these pictures are quite interesting I must say. The wood fence adds a man made touch to the beach scene and it also offers contract between near and far objects, if well executed will be a sought after piece. However, the sun set scene adds a hint of mystery to the picture and again if it is well executed, it will attract buyers.

You will need to buy the following items, view the list below.
(1)  Pencils
(2)  Erasers
(3)  Sketch pad
(4)  Paper
(5)  A Board- I would recommend a 20" x 26", this is to support the paper.
(6)  Brushes -buy the best brushes you can afford, if you want detail you need to buy a rigger brush, these brushes allow for more freedom.

(7) Acrylic paints or water color paints can be used, its all base upon your preference.
(8) Palette - there are many sizes and shapes- its all depends on your choice
(9) Paper towels
(10) Natural Sponge- this could be used for texture, for wetting paper and lifting out white.

Before you begin painting, you must first understand that your first attempt will not be perfect and as an aspiring artist as yourself, you must never get discouraged and give up too soon.

Let me tell you, can you remember this saying? Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder! If you follow these simple steps your creation will be held in high esteem and you will be on you way to explore the world of art.

Step 1 - You need a good picture, that will continue to capture your interest and the viewers interest as well,

Step 2- When you have selected the picture look at it and study its for awhile, look at the background and foreground - look for any major objects like trees, wood, stone, the horizon, mountains , sky and the like and see where it is position. If you want to include these objects in the painting you must position them for the eyes, this is called composition. I would advised that you  purchase a book by Walter Foster -Artist's Library Series on water color if you are really serious.

He will teach you techniques in value, color , painting techniques and also shows you how the techniques are applied. But for now, as promised I will have a go in explaining these concepts as we proceed into the blog, by using pictures at different beaches. So LET US BEGIN-

Step 3- use a very light pencil to draw because you don't want to see dark pencil drawings when you begin to paint, draw lightly.

If you have a picture that you have taken within the Caribbean region, feel free to send it to me and I will guide you accordingly.

It is now possible to transform your special pictures into a work of Art.
